The Pirate Party received almost 9% of the vote…not too shabby!
This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.

On August 14, 1880, the Cologne Cathedral was completed.
This photograph taken on April 24, 1945 shows the Cologne Cathedral standing undamaged while the entire area surrounding it is completely devastated. Railroad station and Hohenzollern Bridge lie damaged to the north and east of the cathedral.
I spent a significant amount of time down the river in Mainz, but Cologne was my fun escape. I remember coming out of the train station with the enormous cathedral towering over.
In any case, if you are obsessed with cleanliness and order yet harbor a secret fascination with filth and chaos, you are bound to get into some kind of trouble. There is no such thing as clean without dirt. There is no such thing as purity without impurity. The interest in one implies an interest in the other.
When I studied Maastricht, I did wonder how and why Germany would ever join the Eurozone. The economics was one point: getting so many separate economies to join together. Fluctuation from one market could ripple through the rest. The other point is much more cultural: how do you get everyone to abide by the same rules, much less believe in the rules?

The oft-fired, once-relegated coach had always believed in development of a team, not merely the reliance on stars. He left that strategy to Italy and France and England. They are home watching on television.
Germany plays on, stylishly.

I have a feeling, I’d love working for Loew. I could learn a lot from him.
I wonder if he would dictate the shirt/sweaters we would wear to work. Hm.
This morning’s front page of a Berlin newspaper.
Toi, toi, toi!
“An American coach understands the mentality of the American player,” Gulati said.
Klinsmann as US coach in 2014. I would have to buy a US Jersey. Germany would still be my team despite my passport.
What the Hell? Goalies used to wear HATS?
Actually it is how they came up with the term “keeper” for goalies. Back in the day there wasn’t typically dressing rooms where the visiting teams could lock up their wallets/etc.. and with all the hooligans around the team bench stuff would always get stolen. So the “keepers” would keep the teams’ valuables under their hats during the game. And now you know the rest of the story.
Interesting! Cute hat, but I prefer hat-less. I’d hate to listen to goalies griping about missing the ball due to the hat.
I still love Germany.
*I still dislike Deutsche Bahn.
